Material Policies & Delivery
This page explains how Material policies work, when to use each one, and how they impact student checkout.
Material Policies are set when you Create a Course Offering.
They determine:
- Whether a Material is selected by default or chosen by the student
- Whether the price is included or added at checkout
Choosing the right policy ensures:
- Students are charged correctly
- Material requirements are clear
Every Material you attach to a Course must use one of four policies:
- Optional
- Included
- Required (Waivable)
- Required (Bundled, Non-Waivable)
Policy 1 — Optional
What it means
- Not included by default
- Student can add it via a checkbox
- Price is added only if selected
- Functions as an upsell
Best for
- Add-ons
- CPR masks or equipment
- Optional books/manuals
- BLS Add-On or similar certifications
What students see
- A checkbox
- A price
- A short summary
Policy 2 — Included in Course Price
What it means
- Material is included for every registration
- Student cannot remove it
- No additional cost appears in checkout
- Delivered automatically via Student Portal
Best for
- ARC courses (manual included)
- Free PDFs
- Items always provided
- Static instructions/handouts
What students see
- “Included” label
- No line item
- No ability to deselect
Policy 3 — Required (Waivable)
